DOUBLE TROUBLE

Richard Mohaupt

April 12 and 13

The Chorus explains to the audience how twin brothers, Hocus and Pocus, became separated. As the action begins, Hocus is living on a Mediterranean island with his wife, Naggia, and their daughter, Cynthia. Pocus, who has been sent from Sicily to find his long-lost brother, arrives on the island. Prior to his brother’s arrival, Hocus has become involved with Erotia, a courtesan. Inevitably, there are a series of mistaken identity crises. Erotia believes that Pocus is his brother. Cynthia and her lover, Lucio, are shocked to be given permission (by Pocus) to marry, since Hocus had always refused. Naggia berates Pocus, believing him to be her husband, for stealing her jewelry and furs as a gift for Erotia. Eventually, the brothers find each other and there is a joyful reunion. Hocus’ property, including Naggia, is auctioned off and the two brothers return to their home in Sicily.
